Rev. Iain Glithero

Rev. Iain Glithero is currently "Appointed Retired" as Associate Pastor at St. Matthew United Methodist Church.  Iain attended Claremont School of Theology and received a Local Pastor's License in 1996.  He was appointed part time at St. Matthew Mesa, where he served from September 1996 until 2002.  Graduating from the five-year course of study at CST in 2000, he was subsequently appointed full time as Associate Pastor at 1st UMC Sun City in 2002, and then as First Associate Pastor at 1st UMC Phoenix in 2006.  Early retirement from full time ministry in 2007 occurred due to a shortage of appointment opportunities.

Before entering the ministry, Iain was employed in electronics engineering from 1976 to 2001.  At one time, he was a mobile service engineer for the Phoenix branch of a Dutch electronic equipment manufacturer.  This job entailed extensive travel around the world, and included many trips to Israel where he became interested in biblical archaeology and ancient history.

The love of history has led to extensive research into biblical history and the history of the Methodist Church, including authoring a book (2007) on the life and times of John Wesley (A Life of Changes and Chances - self published).  Iain has taught technical subjects, including Computer Science, Robotics, and Electronic Maintenance, but is now focused on teaching biblical studies and the origins of the Wesleyan movement.

Born in the industrial Midlands of England, Iain was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School and then entered the Royal Air Force as an Aircraft Apprentice.  After Apprentice College, Iain entered full time service in the Royal Air Force as an Aircraft Technician.  During his Air Force service he met his wife Rosemary and they were married in 1968.  They have two sons, both born in England, prior to the family emigrating in 1976.  The family lived first in Florida, where they became members of the Methodist Church, and in 1983 they moved to Mesa and joined St. Matthew.

Iain and Rosemary are both actively involved in Deaf Ministries as participants in the two sign language choirs at St.  Matthew.  Iain continues to enjoy building and flying model aircraft, which have been an interest since childhood.
