There are many opportunities for children, youth, and adults to actively participate in the worship services!
Communion. Sunday Mornings at 8am, 9am, and 10:30am. Holy Communion is offered each week at the Acoustic Worship Service in the Chapel (8am), Cup of Blessing Service in Fellowship Hall (9am) and the first Sunday of each month in the 9am Traditional and 10:30am Blended services in the Sanctuary. The Worship Committee prepares the bread and grape juice every week to be used in the services. While the pastors bless the Communion elements during the service, members of the church frequently participate by helping serve Communion to the congregation. Service Communion can be a humbling and uplifting opportunity. All adults and responsible youth are encouraged to share in this experience.
Greeting. Sunday Mornings at 9am (Traditional), and 10:30am. Greeters have the privilege of being the first people to welcome visitors and parishioners to our Traditional (9am) and Blended (10:30am) worship services. A smile, handshake, and "Good Morning!" can brighten anyone's day. It is a rare gift to receive and bestow such a blessing on so many people in one morning. Families and individuals are encouraged to serve as greeters.
Lay Reading (Liturgist). Sunday Mornings at 9am (Traditional), and 10:30am. Liturgists sit at the front of the Sanctuary and lead in worship. They offer the invocation at the beginning of each service and lead the congregation in prayers and responses. All youth and adults are invited to learn more about this opportunity.
Ushering. Sunday Mornings at 9am (Traditional) and 10:30am. Our ushers prepare the Sancturay before each service, great people as they enter the church, ushers prepare the Sanctuary before each service, greet people as they enter the Sanctuary, answer questions, offer bulletins to parishinoers, usher people into pews, serve the congregation during the offering and Communion, and aid the congregation and pasters before, during, and after services. These responsibilties are shared among our team of dedicated ushers; each person serves in the capactities where they feel most comfortable. The St. Matthew ushers welcome any adults and responsible youth who desire to serve the church.
Acolyting. Sunday Mornings at 9am (Traditional) and 10:30am. Acolyting is a special ministry open only to youth. All 6th through 12th graders are encouraged to participate. Acolytes light the altar candles at the beginning of the Sanctuary worship services (9:00 and 10:30 AM), assist in Communion and at baptisms, and assist the pastors during the services.
