News & Events

Growing in the Christian faith involves prayer, study, and action as a disciple of Christ. While St. Matthew offers many opportunities for all three, we also provide special ways for individuals to grow with God and with their family.

Cheeseburgers and Paradise.  All summer long, our pastors will be leading this 101-level, introductory class on topics of the faith.  For more information, click here.

Back to School Drive.  The purpose of this annual drive is to show God's love to the children serviced by the Wesley Center and UMOM.  All supplies donated will be taken to the Wesley Community Center and UMOM and distributed before the beginning of the new school year.  All supplies must be brought to St. Matthew on or before Sunday, July 12.  Boxes will be placed in the narthex for your donations.

St. Matthew Women's Retreat.  July 10-12 at Emmanuel Pines in Prescott.

Women of Faith Conference.  "A Grand New Day" October 2-3 at U.S. Airways Arena, Phoenix.  Friday, October 2 10am-3:30pm and 7pm-9:30pm.  Saturday, October 3 9am-5pm PLUS 2 box lunches.  Tickets $99 each.

Hydration Donation Campaign.

With temperatures now hitting double digits, Mesa's third annual Hydration Donation Campaign is working with nonprofit agencies to provide supplies of water to the homeless and unsheltered.  Residents are being asked to donate water at various drop-off locations throughout the city:

Mesa Fire Department Volunteer Center. 2800 E. Adobe (behind Fire         Station 206 at Lindsay and Adobe).  24 hour drop-off in parking lot

United Food Bank.  358 E. Javelina (near U-S 60 and Mesa Drive). 7am-5pm Monday-Friday.  Collection bins will be available on weekends.

Paz de Cristo.  424 W. Broadway.  9am-6pm Monday-Friday.  1pm-5pm Saturday-Sunday

City of Grace Church. 655 E. University. 9am-4pm Monday-Thursday.  5pm-8pm Saturday.  9am-Noon Sunday.

A New Leaf-MesaCAN.  635 E. Broadway.  8am-5pm Monday-Friday in front lobby.

Last year, more than 62,000 bottles of water were donated during the campaign.  The water is distributed through United Food Bank to the above agencies in the Valley as well as others.

Holy Yoga.  1st and 3rd Friday 9:30am in room D23/24.  Come experience a different way of connecting with God through prayer, breath and movement.  Bring a mat, wear comfortable clothing and invite a friend.  Childcare will be provided.  50 minutes of gentle yoga, prayer, meditation and relaxation.  $5 is the suggested donation.  For more information, www.holyyoga.net.

Thursday Morning Bible Study. Women's Bible Study will resume September 24 at 6am in B11...Men's Bible Study meets at 6:30am, Coco's, Baseline and Dobson...Pastor's Bible Study will resume August 20 at 9:30am in B14.  Pastor Dave Alberts is the facilitator.

Big Changes in Tween Sunday School.  Our Tween Sunday School class (4th-6th graders) is now self-contained with Mareen Treese, Janet and Leroy Livingston and Billie Johnson as the teachers.  The new Sunday School class will no longer use Power Express (the program our younger Sunday School class uses) and now focuses on certain topics for 4-6 weeks.  Instead of a different teacher each week, 3 teachers will teach 2 weeks each, so the students and teachers will be able to build a deeper relationship.  We're trying to make the Tween class more "grown up" but still fun and challenging.

New Section in Lower Elementary Sunday School.  "Jesus and the Synagogue."  Our younger elementary children (kingergarten-3rd grade) will explore the story of Jesus in the Synagogue through 7 learning centers:  storytelling, science, games, crafts, music, cooking and video.
