Since 1950, Wesley Community Center has been located in south central Phoenix. It provides many programs and services for families, children/youth, adults, and senior women, including emergency food assistance, sewing classes, a senior women’s group, and after-school and summer programs. The Wesley Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) which not only provides medical care but also provides preventive and health management classes.
Wesley Community Center is a National Mission Institution of the United Methodist Church and is a partner with Valley of the Sun United Way.
St. Matthew UMC members and the St. Matthew United Methodist Women have been involved with Wesley Community Center for many years. Two of our church members have been on Wesley’s staff. Many have volunteered. Currently, St. Matthew collects food for the Emergency Food Pantry; collects Labels for Education UPC points that Wesley uses to “purchase” equipment; donates new school supplies and backpacks to the Back-to-School drive; collects fabric, thread and notions for the sewing classes; participates in the Christmas Adopt-A-Family Program; and contributes monetarily.
